 Common Myths About Domestic Violence

"It's only when he's drinking that he hits me."
Alcohol and drugs are frequently present during violence - but they are not the reason   for violence.

  "Religious beliefs will stop battering."
Violence is not the victim's problem - it is the batterer alone. Once a person begins to   batter a partner, the violence becomes more severe and more frequent. Only intervention   will stop battering.

"Battered women are uneducated with few job skills."
Domestic violence crosses all racial, educational and economic boundaries. No one is   immune.

"Only a small number of women are battered."
More than 6 million women will be battered in this country this year. More women will   suffer domestic violence than rape, mugging and auto accidents combined.
